Cultural Landscape Award

Stunning scenery with flowering meadows and the sound of cowbells are the main reasons why our guests choose the Jungfrau Region for their holiday. This landscape must be maintained and managed by the farmers, however. In our mountain region, topography and climate limit the possibilities of efficient management and competitive production. Nevertheless, steep and remote areas are often very valuable, both ecologically and aesthetically. If these areas were left untended, they would soon become overgrown and turn into forest.

Each year, the «Cultural Landscape Award» is bestowed upon particularly beautiful and valuable cultural landscapes in the region. Together with the support and image cultivation provided by the tourist industry, the award is an incentive for farmers to continue practising sustainable management, and thus helps to preserve our beautiful cultural landscape
