Explore the Jungfrau Region in three days

From the imposing mountain and glacier landscapes of the world-famous triumvirate of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau to the crystal-clear Brienzersee - and back again. What are you waiting for?

The tour starts and ends in Grindelwald, at the foot of the mighty Eiger and its historic north face. Over the course of three days, you'll travel from one picture-postcard motif to the next: picturesque hamlets and chalet-style villages, stunning mountain and glacier views, spectacular waterfalls and the crystal-clear Brienzersee. The region is just too predestined for mountain bikers and e-mountain bikers. For the latter, battery charging stations are available at various locations along the route. Depending on the battery power, we recommend taking a spare battery in your daypack.

Description:

Day 1 Grindelwald - Mürren

Grindelwald – Kleine Scheidegg – Wengen – Lauterbrunnen – Grütschalp – Mürren (overnight stay)

» Direct tour variant: 30 km, 1200 m difference in altitude, 600 m difference in depth (via Zweilütschinen, not via Kleine Scheidegg).
» Difficult tour variant: 35 km, 2100 m difference in altitude, 1500 m difference in depth.

The direct tour variant starts in Grindelwald on Schweizmobil Veloroute 61, out of the valley along the Black Lütschine River to Zweilütschinen. Here you change to Alpine Route 1 to Lauterbrunnen, where the second ascent begins on marked Bike Route 450 towards Mürren. From Mittelberg, you leave the signposted bike route and ride along the railway line on an asphalt path to Mürren. The car-free, unspoilt panoramic alpine village at the foot of the Schilthorn offers breathtaking views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.

The difficult tour variant starts with a longer ascent of a good 1100 metres in altitude on an asphalted, car-free little road to Kleine Scheidegg, the hub to the Jungfraujoch. If you are travelling with an E-MTB, you can recharge your battery here - and of course marvel at the impressive panorama of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. The signposted bike route no. 1 leads you via Wengen into the Lauterbrunnen Valley, Switzerland's base jump mecca. A short detour to the world-famous Staubbachfall Waterfall is worthwhile. In Lauterbrunnen you join the direct tour variant (see above).

Day 2 Mürren - Meiringen

Mürren – Stechelberg – Lauterbrunnen – Interlaken – Brienz  – Meiringen (overnight stay)

» 60 km, 800 metres in altitude, 1800 metres in descent

From Mürren you cycle again on the Bikeroute 450 over small and partly steep asphalt and alpine paths via Gimmelwald to Stechelberg. Now you roll comfortably down the Lauterbrunnen Valley, past the Trümmelbach Waterfalls. After Lauterbrunnen you can choose to ride on the right side of the river on forest paths and easy trails of Alpine Bike Route 1 or on the road to the left of the river. Depending on the time of day, you can expect some traffic here. From Zweilütschinen, Bikeweg 1 leads to the right of the Lütschine to Wilderswil and through Interlaken to the northern shore of Lake Brienz. From here, Bikeweg 451 runs over partly paved From here, the Bikeweg 451 runs on partly paved, partly unpaved paths in a constant up and down, always with a beautiful view of the deep blue Brienzersee, to Brienz. In Brienz you change to the Aare cycle path No. 8. On the last kilometres of the day, along the right bank of the Aare, you can end the long day's biking in comfort.

Day 3 Meiringen - Grindelwald

Meiringen - Grosse Scheidegg - Grindelwald

» 30 km, 1500 metres in altitude, 1050 metres in descent

On the last day of the round trip we will also cycle on the Alpine Bike Route No. 1. Immediately after the first metres in altitude, the first attraction of the day awaits: the legendary Reichenbach Waterfall, where Sherlock Holmes defeated his arch-enemy Professor Moriarty. After another 400 metres of altitude, you reach Rosenlaui. The spectacular glacier gorge can be visited on foot, the tour takes about 45 minutes. After another 100 metres in altitude, you can indulge in culinary delights at the beautiful Chalet Schwarzwaldalp - and if you are on your way with your E-MTB, you can recharge your battery here. Well fortified, the tour now leads up to Grosse Scheidegg. From here, with the imposing Wetterhorn behind you, the rapid descent back to Grindelwald begins.
