3 Mountain Lakes to Cool Down in Summer

Who would have thought, even here in the mountains it can get hot. Just last week it was nearly 30 degrees a couple of times. So here are 3 mountain lakes where you can cool yourself off in the summer months – after or during a hike or excursion in the Jungfrau Region.
Oh, wait a minute. First of all, «See» means lake in German. The lakes are often named after places, areas or mountains. Now that you know, we'll use the German names below. Either way, they will be written like this on the hiking trails.
So here we go:
#1 Oberhornsee
The way to this small natural oasis leads a bit away from crowded excursion destinations – namely into the upper Lauterbrunnen valley. But before you can refresh yourself in the cool water of the lake, you have to get through an intense ascent first. But it's definitely worth it, believe us.
If you like it nostalgic, we recommend an overnight stay in the Hotel Obersteinberg. The so-called candle hotel has no electricity and no running water, but a lot of candlelight and petroleum lamps.
#2 Bachalpsee
A little shooting star among the mountain lakes here. Because the wide path is accessible in summer as well as in winter and the imposing Schreckhorn summit is reflected uniquely in the lake, the Bachalpsee is one of the most popular photo subjects in the region. From Grindelwald, the cable car takes you up the First – from here you can reach the mountain lake in less than an hour.
Here you are in the midst of a great hiking are and many trails lead past the lake. Among them is a fantastic ridgeway to the Schynige Platte, a train mountain station above the village of Wilderswil. You better start early as the tour takes about 6 hours.
#3 Bathing lake Hasliberg
Technically, this is not a natural mountain lake. This lake was created especially for the residents and guests. However, everything is very natural and the surroundings are unique. Take a look for yourself.
The bathing lake is almost 3000 m² in size and is located between the Twing railway station and the Reka holiday village on the Hasliberg. The kids were also thought of – a shallow area has been specially created for them. In addition, the lake also offers sunbathing lawns, beach chairs, changing rooms, a bistro and an outdoor shower with a view of the mountain panorama.

In the villages of Grindelwald, Meiringen, Lauterbrunnen and Wengen there are also outdoor swimming pools. Otherwise there are many streams, small rivers or other lakes that you will come across when you walk through the region – some are real pearls of nature.
Extra tip when it's hot: Glacier gorges – it's cool there as the name already promises.
Please pay attention to the signs on site, because there are also lakes where swimming isn't really allowed. And don't disturb the fishermen or you'll have a hook on your swimsuit haha.
