GOOD TO KNOW

Money
Currency: Swiss francs (CHF). Only a few places accept euros. We recommend carrying cash because card payments are not always possible, especially in mountain restaurants and small shops.

Water
The tap water is drinking water. Any exceptions are clearly marked.

Internet
The Swiss mobile network is good in Mürren. However, reception is sometimes weak in the surrounding mountain areas. Many restaurants offer free Wi-Fi, as does the sports centre. You can also hire your own Pocket Wifi mobile hotspot (available from Mürren Tourism).

Lauterbrunnen car park
You will find the Lauterbrunnen multi-storey car park at the entrance to the village, at Lauterbrunnen Station. Parking spaces can be reserved online for a minimum of 5 days (in winter) or 3 days (in summer).

Stechelberg car park
You will find the car park at the Schilthorn cableway station in Stechelberg.
For holidaymakers, we recommend the prepaid ticket.
First you take a ticket at the entrance and then go to the ticket machine. Before inserting the ticket, you select the prepaid ticket button and pay the required amount. This recodes your ticket and allows you to enter and exit as often as you like for 7, 14 or 30 consecutive days.

LUGGAGE TRANSPORT

Station to station

The reliable Swiss railway network offers a luggage transport service from station to station or from door to door. It can even transport luggage outside of Switzerland.

The mountain railways that take you to Mürren are able to help guests with large amounts of luggage. There are large storage areas available and staff can also store your luggage for you.

Safety
Mürren and the surrounding region are closely linked to nature. Here, it’s vital that you abide by the rules and treat nature with respect.

Meteorological conditions:
The weather in the mountains can change quickly and unpredictably. Always equip yourself accordingly and only go on tours that are appropriate for your skill level.
In winter, it is particularly important to pay attention to the avalanche situation.

Cows with calves
Some hiking trails lead across cow pastures. Hikers are the guests of the animals here.
Keep your distance, do not touch the calves and do not walk your dog across the pasture if you can avoid it.

Guest card for Mürren and Gimmelwald

Everyone who stays overnight in Mürren or Gimmelwald is eligible for a guest card (Goldencard). You can obtain the card directly from your accommodation provider or from the Tourist Information Centre after you have paid the tourist tax (you can obtain the form for this from your accommodation provider).

Tourist taxes

In accordance with the tourist tax regulations of the municipality of Lauterbrunnen (Mürren and Gimmelwald are part of this municipality), every visitor is subject to the tourist tax. A visitor within the meaning of these regulations is any person not resident for tax purposes in the municipality of Lauterbrunnen who stays overnight in Lauterbrunnen.
