High above the Lauterbrunnen valley on the Mürren viewing terrace (1,640 metres above sea level), the via ferrata begins, leading into a steep abyss. As a rule, via ferratas go upwards. In Mürren, on the other hand, the route goes "diretissima" down towards Gimmelwald. 300 metres in altitude and 2.2 km of via ferrata are covered in around 3 hours. Via ferratas, also known as via ferrata, are a kind of intermediate stage between normal mountain hiking and free climbing.
