About Mürren

The mountain village at the foot of the Schilthorn

High above the Lauterbrunnen Valley lies Mürren, a car-free mountain village in the Jungfrau Region with a unique panorama and a long history. Situated at 1,650 metres, this sunny mountain village is considered the highest year-round inhabited settlement in the canton of Bern and captivates visitors with its impressive location at the foot of the Schilthorn.

The village’s origins date back to the 13th century. Over the decades, the former Walser settlement developed into a major holiday and winter sports resort with international appeal. Mürren has been particularly shaped by alpine skiing: it was here that the first slalom races and alpine world championships took place. Film history was also made here: the James Bond classic ‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’ was filmed on the Schilthorn in 1969 and continues to shape the village to this day.

Sustainability is a key aspect of Mürren as a tourist destination. As a car-free mountain village, Mürren encourages environmentally friendly travel by public transport and is easily accessible by train and cable car. This helps to reduce traffic in the sensitive Alpine region and protects the unique natural environment.

Together with Jungfrau Region Tourismus AG, Mürren is committed to a responsible approach to nature, society and the economy. The region is ISO 14001-certified and holds the Swisstainable Level III label, which recognises the highest standards in sustainability.
The aim is to preserve the impressive mountain landscape around Mürren in the long term, whilst at the same time creating a high-quality visitor experience for present and future generations.

About the company

Jungfrau Region Tourism is responsible for the marketing and further development of the destination. Within this organisation, the Mürren Resort is responsible for looking after guests on site, providing information and advice, and coordinating various tourism services. Mürren, together with Grindelwald, Wengen, Lauterbrunnen and the Haslital, is one of the five resorts in the Jungfrau Region.
